William Roberts Earns Fellow of Information Privacy Designation

June 17, 2019

William J. Roberts, co-chair of the firm’s Data Privacy and Protection Practice Group and a partner in the firm's Health Law Practice Group, has earned the Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP) designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the world’s largest and most comprehensive global information privacy community.

The designation signifies that Roberts has demonstrated a comprehensive knowledge of privacy law, privacy program management and essential data protection practice through his completion of two IAPP certifications.  This credential is given to those that have focused mainly in the area of privacy, speak regularly on related topics and assist their clients with navigating the complexities of the privacy industry. FIP also requires the recommendation of three peers.

This follows Roberts' appointment as Interlaw Global Chair of Privacy. Interlaw is a global network of independent law firms comprising 7,000+ lawyers based in over 150 cities around the world. In addition, Roberts will be leading a webinar next month on the unique threats presented by personnel with legitimate access to controlled company information and how to proactively mitigate risks of data misuse.

“Earning the FIP credential and being selected as global chair of privacy at Interlaw demonstrate Bill's dedication to his profession and his clients as he best positions himself and the firm in a rapidly evolving data privacy and protection arena," said Alan E. Lieberman, Managing Partner of Shipman & Goodwin.

Roberts focuses his practice at the intersection of privacy, technology and the law, with a particular emphasis on the health care and insurance sectors. He advises clients regarding legal challenges with regulatory compliance, governmental investigations, data breaches and complex contracting.  Roberts’ clients include health care providers, insurers and technology firms, including health care technology companies and insurance technology firms.
