Successful Acquisition and Land Use Approvals for New Haven Hotel Development

Connecticut Developer

Represented a Connecticut developer in the successful acquisition of and land use approvals related to three adjacent parcels of land in New Haven in two separate IRC Section 1031 transactions on which an extended-stay hotel is to be constructed.  Our team addressed issues related to the acquisition of the parcels, the leasing of the property to current commercial and residential tenants, the adaptive reuse of an historic home located upon the property, and related environmental issues which stemmed from prior uses of the property.  Through multiple public hearings and over the course of a year, our team successfully received necessary approvals for the development of the first hotel to be constructed in New Haven in recent memory. This development will meet a significant unmet need for extended-stay accommodations in downtown New Haven while also improving an underutilized site and enhancing the connectivity between downtown New Haven and its medical district.
