Shipman Achieves Mansfield Certification Plus for 2020
September 15, 2020
Shipman & Goodwin announced today that the firm has achieved a Mansfield Certification Plus designation for 2020. Shipman was one of 100 law firms nationwide to achieve certification.
The Mansfield Rule 3.0 was a year-long certification process requiring law firms to affirmatively consider at least 30 percent women, minority, LGBTQ+ and disabled attorneys (“historically underrepresented lawyers”) for significant governance roles, senior lateral openings, equity partner promotions, and formal client pitches and RFP responses. The “Plus” status indicates that, in addition to meeting or exceeding the pipeline consideration requirements for Certification, Shipman has successfully reached at least 30 percent diverse lawyer representation in a notable number of current leadership roles and committees.
"We are proud to be among the group of firms to achieve a Mansfield Certified Plus designation in recognition of our unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion," said Alan E. Lieberman, Managing Partner. "At a time when the nation is focused on social justice, it is more important than ever that we focus on diversity and inclusiveness within the firm, the legal profession and our community."
Through its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, Shipman supports ongoing initiatives to recruit, develop and retain a diverse team of attorneys and staff, sponsor organizations and develop events that share perspectives and raise awareness of issues related to diversity and inclusion facing organizations and the community.
"The Mansfield Rule has had a very positive impact not only for our attorneys but our clients who appreciate the diverse attorneys they work with," said Jessica Ritter, Co-Chair of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee.
