Tom Owen
Associate
Tom Owen works with schools and colleges on legal issues related to students, employees, governance, and policy. He draws on his previous career in education to offer practical legal guidance to school leaders.
Before law school, Tom worked at boarding and day schools in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Virginia. He has served schools as an English teacher, a coach, a dorm parent, an advisor, an assistant director of communications, and (occasionally) a minibus driver. He has also worked as the director of thought leadership at a strategy consulting firm serving independent schools.
During law school, Tom completed legal internships at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Massachusetts Department of Labor Relations, and Northeastern University’s Office of the General Counsel. He was also a summer associate at Shipman.
Tom holds a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law, an M.A. in private school leadership from the Klingenstein Center for Independent School Leadership at Columbia University’s Teachers College, and an A.B. in comparative literature from Dartmouth College.
The son of an independent school head and a college professor, Tom grew up in Stonington, Connecticut.
