Sarah is a member of Shipman’s Environmental Practice Group where she assists clients by creating technical and legal solutions to complex regulatory challenges. Sarah maintains a robust environmental regulatory and transactional practice, and guides buyers, sellers and lenders/investors in industrial and commercial real property transactions to manage risks, including investigation, disclosure, remediation, liability and other legal or regulatory burdens that environmental contamination can trigger. Sarah helps clients comply with federal and state environmental, health, and safety (EHS) protocols, including regulatory compliance, auditing, and due diligence and is experienced in the development of environmental compliance programs. She has also helped corporate clients navigate enforcement actions brought under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), and Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).
Sarah advises clients on international, federal and state requirements relating to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). She is well versed in and aptly guides clients through compliance, transactions, remediation and supply chain contracting matters and assists in the development and implementation of risk management strategies associated with the dynamic landscape of PFAS laws and regulations. She is familiar with international guidelines and policies used to develop strong systems for corporate sustainability, including providing advice and guidance to effectively adapt environmental management systems at manufacturing sites across the globe.
Before joining Shipman, Sarah was an environmental attorney at a national firm. Prior to that she clerked for the Hon. Chase T. Rogers, Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court, and served as a judicial extern for Judge Laura Taylor Swain in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (S.D.N.Y.). She interned in the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, S.D.N.Y., where she assisted with settlements under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).
Sarah wrote her master’s project at Yale University on international legal frameworks for recovering electronic waste. Prior to law school, Sarah participated in the first federally funded research expedition dedicated solely to examining the accumulation of plastic debris in the North Atlantic Ocean.
Sarah is a member of the Fairfield County Bar Association, where she chairs the Environmental Committee.
