Bill Roberts will participate as part of a panel providing practical information about HIPAA, including what supervisors need to know, what they should not ask, and what they should do. The panel is hosted by the Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA).  A brief introduction to the topic is offered below:

Generally speaking, everyone now understands that medical records are protected by HIPAA. But, HIPAA only governs protected health information for covered entities, such as health care providers or employers that self-insure the costs of employer-provided medical benefits. Thus, what obligations do employers have to protect the medical information they receive from their employees during the regular course of business? Come learn about the issues that arise when employers obtain medical information because of FMLA, workers’ compensation claims, leaves of absence and more.
