Simsbury resident Rauchell Beckford-Anderson, an attorney with Shipman & Goodwin LLP’s Labor and Employment and School Law practice groups, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Aurora Women and Girls Foundation, a non-profit based in West Hartford.
The appointment was finalized during Aurora’s Annual Meeting on March 28, when the organization kicked off its 24thyear of gender-focused research and grantmaking aimed at expanding college and career opportunities for women and girls.
“I am thrilled about my election to the Board of Directors,” said Rauchell. “When I learned about Aurora, I immediately became intrigued with the organization’s work, specifically, its focus on creating positive change in the lives of women and girls in Greater Hartford and knew immediately that I wanted to get involved with Aurora in some capacity. The organization has amazing people doing challenging and impactful work, and I truly look forward to doing my part to further Aurora’s mission.”
Beckford-Anderson has previously volunteered for Aurora’s signature annual fundraiser, the Luminary Event. A graduate of Capital Community College in Hartford, Central Connecticut State University, and Western New England University School of Law, she served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Robert G. Fields at the Western Housing Court in Springfield, MA, and post law school, clerked for several Connecticut Superior Court judges.
She also serves on the Board of Operation Fuel, and is also the secretary for the Board. Rauchell also served on the Board for Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity.
“We are thrilled to strengthen Aurora’s already strong Board with the addition of an outstanding community leader like Rauchell,” said Jennifer Steadman, PhD, Executive Director of the Aurora Women and Girls Foundation.
Rauchell lives in Simsbury with her husband Adrian, her daughters Avauni and Arielle, and their dog Peanut.
Two other women were also elected to Aurora’s Board: Katherine Hall of West Granby, the Vice President of Global Programs for Koyamada International Foundation, and Tina St. Pierre of Wethersfield, a Partner and Chief Operating Officer in the Secondaries Group of Ares Management; she also serves on the firm’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.
