Shipman Expands Tax Practice with New Partner
Attorney Melissa M. Mack joins the firm to offer legal services to tax-exempt organizations

Shipman & Goodwin LLP is pleased to announce that Melissa M. Mack has joined the firm’s Tax and Employee Benefits Practice Group as a Partner.
Melissa has extensive experience representing tax-exempt organizations, including advising on matters related to exemption, and corporate and governance issues.
“We are excited to welcome Melissa to Shipman and expand our tax services for nonprofits and exempt organizations,” said David Bigger, Chair of the firm’s Tax and Employee Benefits Practice Group. “She has impressive experience in nonprofit and tax-exemption law, and she will offer our clients valuable expertise.”
Melissa counsels large and small clients on formation, obtaining, maintaining, and operating in furtherance of tax-exempt status, governance, strategic planning, charitable giving, fundraising and corporate transactions. She advises organizations and boards of directors across multiple industries.
“I am honored to join Shipman’s tax practice,” said Melissa. “I look forward to continuing my work supporting clients as they navigate tax-exempt legal matters and maximize their organizations’ efforts and impact.” Melissa previously practiced for eleven years at Robinson & Cole before launching her own law practice, Mack Law LLC in 2014. In addition to her legal practice, she served as First Selectman of the Town of Suffield from 2015 through 2021. She received Robinson & Cole’s Pro Bono Award as well as the New Leaders of the Law Award from the Connecticut Law Tribune. Mack earned her J.D., with honors, from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2000, and a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Boston College in 1993.
