Shipman Announces Separation of Insurance Coverage Group
December 28, 2021
Hartford, CT – Shipman & Goodwin LLP and a group of 13 Washington D.C.-based insurance coverage litigators have mutually decided to part ways and continue forward as two separate law firms. The amicable separation will permit each firm to focus on their respective practices. As Shipman has grown its business, environmental, education and litigation practices nationally, the firm has encountered an increasing number of conflicts due to the specialized insurance coverage practice.
“We are committed to serving our clients as we have done for more than 100 years and we wish our former colleagues the best,” said Leander Dolphin, managing partner of Shipman. “For mutual clients, Shipman will continue to handle corporate, labor and employment, litigation, and privacy matters.”
Kent Nevins, chair of Shipman’s management committee said, “In 2021, Shipman had one of its best years ever. We are proud that our success has come from the firm’s investment in innovative practices, young and diverse talent, emerging industries and our commitment to client value. We are well positioned for continued success and strategic growth.”
An NLJ 500 firm, Shipman will begin 2022 with 146 attorneys and 292 personnel firmwide. The firm looks forward to adding more talent in the coming months.
