New Title IX Training for Public Schools
December 1, 2020
On August 14, 2020, the U.S. Department of Education’s final regulations regarding sex discrimination and sexual harassment under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 took effect. The regulations significantly change the manner in which educational institutions investigate and address claims of sex discrimination and harassment. As a result, public school districts must ensure that their board of education policies and procedures concerning sex discrimination and sexual harassment are updated and that they provide necessary training to employees.
To support schools in their training efforts, Shipman’s School Law Group has prepared two separate employee presentations. The first presentation addresses the mandatory training requirements of the new federal regulations. This 3-4 hour training satisfies the mandatory training topics as required by Title IX for Title IX Coordinators, investigators, decision-makers, and informal resolution facilitators. The Group has also developed a separate 1-hour training for all school staff, which provides an overview of the new Title IX requirements and addresses the new standards for reporting incidents of sexual harassment. This 1-hour training is available as a recording.
