Shipman & Goodwin’s Managing Partner, Leander Dolphin was named today as one of Hartford Business Journal’s (“HBJ”) Top 25 Women in Business for 2022. HBJ’s annual list provides an opportunity to recognize women leading organizations in the greater Hartford region, highlighting the range of industries they represent, the obstacles they overcome and the milestones they achieve. Winners are nominated by readers and chosen by a panel of independent judges.
A member of Shipman’s School Law practice, Leander advises educational institutions and businesses in a variety of matters, including employment, student matters, crisis management, and litigation. A 1999 High Honors graduate of Wesleyan University with majors in English, African American Studies and Women’s Studies, Leander graduated from Howard University Law School in 2004. Joining Shipman as an associate, she has built a dynamic education and employment practice, becoming partner in 2015, and Managing Partner in 2022.
“Becoming Managing Partner of Shipman is my biggest professional accomplishment so far,” said Dolphin. “That my partners trust me, and my vision, is the greatest of professional honors. My goal is to be a compassionate leader, which is essential in a forever-changed world. My next big professional ambition is to promote our employees’ connectivity in community with each other and the firm, and to promote a sense of wellbeing in these uncertain times.”
In its award, the HBJ notes that, while each winner has a unique story of success, each winner also has commonalities such as strong mentors. Leander credits Anne Littlefield, General Counsel at Shipman, for providing consistent mentorship and guidance as well as internal and external opportunities to add value throughout her career. “With support from firm leadership, Leander created her own roadmap, acquiring the substantive knowledge and professional experience she needed to succeed as an associate at Shipman and eventually elevate from Shipman’s Management Committee to Managing Partner,” said Littlefield.
The Top 25 Women in Business award winners were published by the HBJ on April 11th; winners will be celebrated at an awards dinner on May 4th.
