CCM Joins Rocky Hill's Fight Against State-Backed Nursing Home

Hartford Courant

November 21, 2013

Ross Garber and Michael King submitted a lengthy amicus brief on behalf of The Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM) backing the town of Rocky Hill in a case pending before the state Appellate Court.  The town is appealing a Superior Court ruling dismissing its lawsuit against a state-backed nursing home.

The brief expressed concern that other private developers, contractors, and property owners will attempt to evade their tax obligations and local zoning regulations by contracting with the state and then asserting an entitlement to sovereign immunity.  It also focused on the issue of municipalities potentially being unable to adequately protect Connecticut citizens from a multitude of health and safety risks.

The amicus brief and coverage of Rocky Hill's battle was featured in the Hartford Courant article, "CCM Joins Rocky Hill's Fight Against State-Backed Nursing Home."  Click here to view the article.
