Barry Hawkins practices in the areas of real estate and litigation. He is the author of numerous papers on real estate issues and has taught and lectured extensively on real estate, land use and environmental issues, including alternative dispute resolution.

Barry is a former member of the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association. Since 1983, he has been active in the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, and served three years on its national Board and as chair of its Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee. He is the Past President of the Connecticut Bar Association. In addition, Barry is currently the Co-chairman of the national Joint Editorial Board Uniform Real Property Acts (JEBURPA). He has been a member of the national Uniform Law Commission (ULC) since 1997, serving as both a Division Chair and most recently as a member of its Executive Committee through 2019.  He currently serves as Connecticut State Chairman of the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation (ABF) and serves as a member of the Governance Committee of the ABF. He is an elected Delegate at Large member of the ABA House of Delegates and serves on the ABA Pension Administration Committee. He is former Chair of the national drafting committee for the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA) and Chair of the National Enactment Committee. He lectures nationally on the subject of institutional endowment funds and UPMIFA.

After graduating from University of Virginia School of Law, Barry served as a Captain in the United States Army. He earned a Bronze Star in Vietnam (1969-1970).

Counsel to Major New York City Investor

Local Counsel for David Feinberg, a New York City investor, in his efforts to take back the Danbury Hilton Garden Inn Hotel from a manager who was also acting as General Partner in the ownership entity. The manager had violated many of the terms of the Limited Partnership Agreement to the detriment of our client.

Counsel to Dow Hotels for the Purchase of the Ramada Inn, Norfolk, Virginia

Represented client in the purchase of a hotel in Norfolk, Virginia. Successfully represented client in negotiations on the purchase agreement, local licensing and real estate transfer issues, and negotiated a new flag agreement with Ramada.
