Michael Widland Honored for Restructuring Stamford Center for the Arts

April 17, 2012

In recognition of his pivotal role in saving the Stamford Center for the Arts (SCA), Shipman & Goodwin attorney Michael L. Widland was honored at SCA’s recent Palace Gala as a recipient of the 2012 Arts Ovation Award. While voluntarily serving as Chairman of the Board, Widland has used his experience with both corporate restructurings and not-for-profits to successfully guide the major cultural arts organization through bankruptcy, reorganization and —ultimately— revitalization. “We would not be here having this celebration but for the extraordinary gifts that Michael possesses and then applied to our community,” Governor Dannel P. Malloy said in presenting the award to Widland. The benefit gala was held at SCA’s Palace Theatre and featured a performance by Liza Minnelli, who received the 3rd Annual Arts Legacy Award.
