Lisa Banatoski Mehta will be a presenter at the 2018 CABE Collective Bargaining Workshop. This fast-paced and interactive seminar begins with a comprehensive look at 2017-2018 contract settlement data and how it will impact 2018-2019 bargaining. The second part of the program focuses on negotiating strategies, including how to organize and use cost data, suggestions for policy and contract language to minimize excessive use of sick leave, and evaluation and elimination of past practices. The seminar will conclude with a robust Q and A session and an opportunity for participants to discuss their own bargaining challenges and experiences.

Topics covered will include:

  • Utilizing 2017-18 contract settlement data to prepare for negotiations.
  • Data for successful bargaining: What to use and how to use it.
  • Past practice. What it is, the elements that make a past practice binding, and the steps an employer must follow to make changes in past practice.
  • Administering employee leave to minimize sick leave overuse and maximize student achievement. Speakers will share bargaining table stories (“you can’t make it up”) and offer solutions for dealing with “real-life” problems for the current contract year.
