Speakers will discuss arbitration strategies that have been used successfully by municipalities in recent arbitrations which address: collecting clear ability-to-pay data prior to arbitration; drawing effective comparisons to other municipalities’ employee groups; moving away from adversarial bargaining toward interest-based bargaining strategies such as sharing information and agreeing to objective criteria; cost of living measures; the Consumer Price Index (CPI); and facilitating brain-storming sessions prior to the beginning of official negotiations.
