Wellness Policy

November 4, 2005

In June 2004, the United State Congress passed the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004.  This federal legislation includes a new requirement that any public and private schools that participate in federally-funded school meals programs (i.e. National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, etc.) develop and implement a student wellness policy to promote healthy eating and physical activity among students. The wellness policies must be in place by the start of the 2006-07 school year.
