Beginning January 1, 2014, most of the reforms mandated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (the “Act”) will be in effect. We will discuss the reforms that impact an employer’s relationship with its employees.   We will particularly focus on the Act’s “Pay or Play” provisions, which provide that applicable large employers (those with at least 50 full time employees on average) must offer qualifying health insurance coverage to their “full-time” employees, or else pay a penalty, although we will also discuss reforms that impact smaller employers.

Workshop topics include:
  • Timeline of important events for employers
  • The Act’s Individual Mandate
  • What are health insurance exchanges and do they offer a meaningful alternative to employer provided coverage
  • What it means to be an “applicable large employer” under the Act
  • How to determine who your full-time employees are and whether the coverage you provide to them will keep you from paying a penalty
