Simpson Is National Bar Association Commercial Law Chair

August 2, 2013

Robert R. Simpson, a partner with the firm, has been elected Chair of the Commercial Law Section of the National Bar Association (NBA). The NBA, the nation’s oldest and largest national network of predominantly African American lawyers and judges, has been a leader in ensuring equal access, rights, equality and jurisprudence. The Commercial Law Section is responsible for hosting the Annual Corporate Counsel Conference.

Mr. Simpson has been an active member of the NBA, serving most recently as General Counsel. He has also held positions in the organization of Treasurer of the Commercial Law Section and Chair of the Corporate Recruitment Committee.

“I am excited for the NBA and Commercial Law, as I am certain that Rob will raise the bar for this great Section under his leadership,” said John E. Page, General Counsel of Golden State Foods and Immediate Past President of the National Bar Association. “As my General Counsel, it is evident that Rob is in tune with the needs of in-house counsel.”

"I'm humbled by this opportunity to carry on the vision Cora T. Walker conceived over 25 years ago," said Mr. Simpson. "I'm excited that we will be able to continue the mission of diversity in the legal profession with the 28th Annual Corporate Counsel Conference on February 20-22, 2014 in Austin, Texas," he said. "The CLS is fortunate to have a group of outstanding co-chairs for the Conference: Jack Balagia, Jr., General Counsel of Exxon Mobil; Mark D. Roellig, Executive Vice President and General Counsel of MassMutual Financial Group; and Angelique Strong Marks, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary of Behr America, Inc.," Mr. Simpson added.

Resident in the firm’s Hartford office, Mr. Simpson practices in the areas of product liability, employment and business litigation.
