Simpson Chairs Nat'l Bar Assoc Corp Counsel Conference

The 27th Annual Corporate Counsel Conference of the National Bar Association’s (NBA) Commercial Law Section, entitled “Elevating Your Game,” is being held in Austin, Texas from February 20 to February 22, 2014. Founded in 1925, NBA is the country’s largest and oldest organization of African-American attorneys and judges. For more than 26 years, the Commercial Law Section has brought its members together with in-house counsel at major corporations who seek to increase the diversity within their ranks.

Robert R. Simpson, a partner in the firm’s Business Litigation practice, is the current Chair of NBA’s Commercial Law Section. Honorary Co-Chairs for the Conference are: Jack Balagia, Jr., Vice-President and General Counsel, Exxon Mobil Corporation; Jerome D. Okarma, Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel, Johnson Controls, Inc.; Angelique Strong Marks, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Behr America, Inc.; and Mark D. Roellig, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, MassMutual Financial Group.

The goal of the Conference is to provide attorneys with the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the wealth of potentially untapped legal resources available to them. Sharing their insight and diverse paths to success, the roster of Conference speakers features prominent attorneys and jurists, including: the Honorable Carl E. Stewart, Chief Judge of the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit; the Honorable Ann Claire Williams, of the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit; and the Honorable Joseph A. Greenaway, Jr., of the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

McDonald’s Corporation is the recipient of the Section’s Corporation of the Year Award for its ongoing commitment to diversity in the legal profession. The Commercial Law Section is also continuing its dedication to youth by supporting the African American Youth Harvest Foundation, which provides mentoring, academic support and funds for college.
