Robert Simpson Recognized Among the Nation's Most Influential Black Lawyers

Shipman & Goodwin partner Robert R. Simpson has been recognized by Savoy Magazine as one of 2018’s Most Influential Black Lawyers. Savoy’s Summer 2018 issue features a listing of the top lawyers from leading national law firms and corporate and general counsel from Fortune 1000 companies. The issue showcases visionaries, leaders and advocates within the legal profession who are widely recognized for their professionalism, protection of rights and community service.

Mr. Simpson is an experienced trial lawyer representing clients in state and federal courts throughout the country. He focuses on products liability litigation, with an emphasis on drug and medical device litigation, and toxic tort litigation. Mr. Simpson serves as lead trial counsel and national coordinating counsel for significant medical device and pharmaceutical product liability cases for Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiaries, including hip implants and pelvic mesh litigation.

In addition to his practice, Mr. Simpson serves as a member of the National Board of Directors of the American Board of Trial Advocates and a trial instructor for NITA and the American Bar Association (ABA), and has held top leadership positions in the ABA’s Litigation Section, the National Bar Association (NBA) and the Connecticut Bar Association. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA and Connecticut Super Lawyers. He has been recognized for his efforts to promote leadership development and advocate for equal opportunity in the legal profession with the NBA Presidential Award and the Trailblazer Award from the George W. Crawford Black Bar Association (an NBA affiliate).

Mr. Simpson also contributes a considerable amount of time to community activities, including serving on the Board of Directors of Riverfront Recapture, Inc., as Stewardship Director for the Faith SDA Church in Hartford and as a drill instructor/director of the Golden Eagles Pathfinder Scout Group.
