National Home Builders Conference Presentation

Tim Hollister Speaks About Property Rights Case

February 4, 2014

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) selected Tim Hollister, Co-Chair of Shipman & Goodwin’s Real Estate, Environmental and Land Use practice, to present an analysis of a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision on property rights at the International Builders Show (IBS) in Las Vegas. IBS is NAHB’s annual conference and the trade show of the home building industry, drawing approximately 70,000 attendees.

Mr. Hollister, a member of NAHB’s Legal Action Committee, was asked to present the recent case of Koontz v. St. Johns River Water Management District, in which the Supreme Court clarified and strengthened federal constitutional protections of property owners when government agencies impose conditions of approval on land use permits. Mr. Hollister teamed with Attorney Ken Bley of Los Angeles in a presentation on February 3. His written analysis on the case (co-authored with Shipman & Goodwin associate Alex Hwang) was made available to all conference attendees.
