DC Attorneys Honored by 2014 Super Lawyers

Shipman & Goodwin attorneys James P. Ruggeri, John C. Hockenbury, Edward B. Parks II and Michele L. Backus have been recognized for their achievements by Washington DC Super Lawyers for 2014.

James Ruggeri, named again as a Washington DC Super Lawyer in the area of Business Litigation, is a partner and Co-Chair of the firm’s Litigation and Insurance & Reinsurance groups and practices actively in federal and state courts around the country, handling complex insurance coverage litigation at the trial and appellate levels. Mr. Ruggeri has been recognized nationally for his involvement in many cutting-edge developments in insurance litigation.

John Hockenbury, a partner in the firm’s Insurance & Reinsurance group, has been recognized as a Washington DC Super Lawyer in the area of Insurance Coverage. Mr. Hockenbury focuses his practice on directors’ and officers’ liability insurance and other professional liability insurance coverage issues, and has a significant amount of experience in claims monitoring, mediation and arbitration of coverage disputes and product development in the professional liability area. He also handles claims under private equity and hedge fund policies and assists clients in drafting specialized policies and endorsements.

Edward Parks has been selected as a Washington DC Super Lawyer in Insurance Coverage. A partner in the firm’s Insurance & Reinsurance and Litigation practices, he focuses principally in the areas of trial and appellate litigation involving general commercial, bankruptcy, and insurance coverage litigation. Mr. Parks practices actively in federal and state courts around the country.

Michele Backus has been chosen as a 2014 Washington DC Rising Star in the area of Insurance Coverage. Ms. Backus is a member of the firm's Insurance & Reinsurance and Litigation practice groups. She has extensive experience representing insurers on a wide range of coverage and reinsurance issues, bankruptcy-related matters and claims of bad faith. Ms. Backus handles complex matters involving client counseling, arbitration and litigation.
