William J. Roberts was recently a panelist for “The Next Generation of Cyber Security: It's not just about firewalls and antivirus software anymore,” a program sponsored by Integrated IT Solutions, AON, and Shipman & Goodwin.
A recent study showed that more than half of small business owners think they're too small to be targeted by hackers when, in fact, more than 70 percent of reported breaches actually affected businesses with 100 employees or less.
The program featured panelists who discussed why weak security measures can threaten a business and reputation as well as compliance with local and federal laws. They also highlighted what businesses can do to manage risks and make their data more secure.
Mr. Roberts is a partner in the firm’s Health Law Practice Group and is the Chair of the firm’s Privacy and Data Protection team. He assists clients with establishing compliance programs for early detection of privacy concerns, conducting investigations and providing notifications when a breach has occurred. He also represents clients before federal and state agencies during breach investigations and serves as outside privacy counsel to health care providers, technology firms and Fortune 100 health insurers.
