International Trade Attorney Joins Firm

T. Scott Cowperthwait has joined the firm. His practice focuses on representing clients in international trade investigations conducted by the United States Department of Justice, United States Department of State, United States Department of Commerce and other government agencies, as well as providing advice to clients regarding compliance with laws governing exports, imports and trade sanctions.

Cowperthwait has represented many corporations and individuals in all aspects of government investigations, including grand jury inquiries, prosecutions and trials, as well as in regulatory matters conducted by federal agencies. Cowperthwait also represents public and private entities concerning local, state and federal laws and regulations relating to cybersecurity, critical infrastructure and homeland security. He serves as president of the Connecticut chapter of InfraGard, a national program created by the Federal Bureau of Investigation dedicated to information sharing and analysis, as well as protecting critical infrastructure and preventing hostile acts against the United States.

Cowperthwait joins the firm’s multi-disciplinary group of attorneys based in both our Connecticut and Washington, D.C. offices who focus on helping clients comply with the complex laws that govern companies who trade internationally and representing those companies when they are faced with inquiries from regulators or law enforcement officials. He will be based in the Hartford office.
