The U.S. Department of Commerce in Middletown, Connecticut will hold Brazil Trade Day on January 24, 2011 at Shipman & Goodwin's Hartford, Connecticut office. The day's activities will bring Brazilian and U.S. government trade officials together to present trade opportunities between Connecticut and Brazil.

Brazil is the world’s 8th largest economy in the world and the largest in South America. Brazil is also one of the world’s fastest growing economies with a GDP growth rate of approximately 5%. Brazil has a sophisticated technological sector with projects that range from submarines to aircrafts to space research. The country possesses a satellite launching center and was the only country in the Southern Hemisphere to integrate the team responsible for the construction of the International Space Station (ISS). In 2008, 14% of Brazil’s trade was with the United States. In 2009, Connecticut exported over $248 million to Brazil with the most significant increase in machine tools. There are plenty of opportunities for Connecticut firms to grow export sales to Brazil, particularly in the following industries:

  • Aerospace
  • Infrastructure
  • Energy
  • Environmental
  • Standards/Specifications
  • Military/Defense
  • High Tech
  • Consumer Products
  • Industries related to the World Cup 2014 and Summer Olympics 2016
