Bill Roberts Joins HIPAA Website as Commentator

William J. Roberts, a member of the firm's Health Law practice, has been selected as a recurring guest contributor on HIPAA.com to provide analysis of key issues related to the security and privacy of health data.

Attracting more than 30,000 unique readers each month, HIPAA.com is a nationally recognized online resource providing content, resources and expert commentary to assist health care providers, compliance officers and other professionals in keeping up to date on compliance and implementation issues for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Attorney Roberts focuses his practice on health care corporate, regulatory and compliance matters. He represents a variety of health care clients, including hospitals and health systems, academic medical centers, physician group practices, health insurance companies, behavioral health providers, federally qualified health centers, and medical device and pharmaceutical companies.

In his regulatory practice, Attorney Roberts advises clients on HIPAA and other state and federal data privacy and security laws; fraud and abuse and the Stark law; and health information technology (including electronic health records). In addition, as a member of the firm’s Data Privacy and Security Client Team, he develops comprehensive privacy and data security programs and policies for both health care and non-health care clients, and regularly counsels them regarding the collection, use, retention, disclosure, transfer and disposal of protected health information and personal information.  He also frequently assists businesses with navigating and remediating data breaches.

Attorney Roberts is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA) and the American Health Lawyers Association.  He is serving a two-year term (2014-2016) as a Business Law Section Envoy for the ABA, which includes roles on the Health Care and Life Sciences and Cyberspace Committees and sharing his knowledge of data privacy, telemedicine and the intersection of health care and technology.
