Attorney Robert Simpson Appointed as American Bar Association's Director of Division V in Substantive Areas of Litigation

Attorney Robert R. Simpson, a Partner at the law firm of Shipman & Goodwin LLP in Hartford, Conn., has been appointed by the American Bar Association (ABA) as its Division Director of Division V - Substantive Areas of Litigation for 2010-2011.

In this capacity, Atty. Simpson will be responsible for working with the American Bar Association leadership and membership to implement initiatives that will help its members be better lawyers and help those less fortunate lead better lives.

Atty. Simpson’s practice at Shipman & Goodwin LLP focuses on product and toxic tort liability, business and employment litigation. He represents major product manufacturers and distributors in matters ranging from automobiles to asbestos. His clients have included some of the largest automobile manufacturers and energy companies in the world. He has handled numerous litigations involving fraud, unfair trade practices, tortious interference and copyright infringement. He has tried cases to verdict in state and federal courts throughout New England and New York involving catastrophic injuries, commercial disputes and employment discrimination, and has argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Connecticut Supreme Court.

Atty. Simpson is a member of the National Bar Association’s Executive Committee – Commercial Law Section. The Co-Chair of the American Bar Association’s Committee on Corporate Counsel, Section of Litigation, he is the Meeting Co-Chair for the organization’s 2010 Section of Litigation Annual Meeting. He is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Federal Judiciary Committee and of the organization’s House of Delegates, and is an Executive Committee member for CBA’s Litigation Section. He also serves as a Board member of the Greater Hartford Legal Aid Foundation, and belongs to the Connecticut Hispanic Bar Association and the George W. Crawford Black Bar Association.

Atty. Simpson received his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio, and an M.B.A. from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. The native of New Rochelle, NY, earned his Bachelors degree from Boston University. He lives in Farmington, Conn. with his wife, Janel, and their two daughters.
