August 19, 2010

Attorney Walker was recently honored with the Deborah Eldridge Service Award from the Greater Hartford Estate and Business Planning Council. The non-profit professional organization is comprised of selected financial advisors, attorneys, CPA’s, and trust officers in the Greater Hartford area. The Deborah Eldridge Service Award is presented to a Greater Hartford Estate and Business Planning Council member who exemplifies the organization’s spirit and efforts in support of the Council and the community.

Atty. Walker practices in the areas of estate planning, estate settlement and trust administration at Shipman & Goodwin. She assists clients with the full range of planning techniques for tax-effective inter-generational and charitable transfers.

Atty. Walker serves as Shipman & Goodwin's Diversity Partner. Through her work with many charitable organizations, she has been actively involved with a variety of not-for-profit community groups. This includes her service as Statewide Co-Chair of Leave A Legacy Connecticut between 1999 and 2008, as a former Chair of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving’s Advisory Committee, as a former Board Member of the Greater Hartford Arts Council and The Planned Giving Group of Connecticut, and as a past member of the board of Duncaster, Inc. and past Chair of the Duncaster Foundation. Currently, she is a member of the Advisory Council of The Shelter for Women in Hartford, and the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, is a Corporator at Hartford Hospital and the Oak Hill School in Hartford, and is a parishioner of St. John's Episcopal Church in West Hartford, where she has served as warden and vestry member.

Atty. Walker received her J.D. from University of Virginia School of Law, and earned her undergraduate degree from Wellesley College. She lives in Hartford, Conn. with her husband Tyler Smith.

In 1999, the Board of Directors of the Hartford Estate and Business Planning Council established the Deborah Eldridge Service Award in memory of the member who served as Council President in 1994 and 1995 and died unexpectedly in March of 1998. It is awarded to a Council member who has provided outstanding service to The Estate and Business Planning Council of Hartford. The Council has created a donor-advised fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. Five hundred dollars ($500) from this fund is donated to a favorite charity of the recipient.
