Attained Approval for Apartment Development in Essex, CT

Signature Contracting Group

Obtained approval for a 52-unit apartment home development on Plains Road in Essex, on land adjacent to the Essex Steam Train facility. The plan requires 30 percent of the units to be preserved under General Statutes Section 8-30g, for 40 years, for moderate income households.  Although applicant Signature Contracting Group’s plan was initially approved, the Commission imposed conditions that would have made the site plan unworkable, including limiting building height and requiring the installation of elevators in three-story structures.  The applicant filed a “resubmission” application under § 8-30g, and was able to reach a compromise with the Commission on all conditions.
