The majority of our entry level associates join the firm thru our summer associate programs. There are also times when offers are made to 3Ls who did not summer with us.
Our Summer Associate Program provides law students with the opportunity to work side-by-side with some of Connecticut's best lawyers.
Summer associates gain experience across a broad range of the firm's practice areas through both observation and participation in a variety of assignments. Our Program provides solid career preparation that complements law school coursework. With its strong emphasis on professional development and training along with substantive hands-on learning experience, our program sharpens the skills you will need to succeed.
Judicial Clerkships
We recognize the value of a judicial clerkship experience and encourage our summer associates who are interested to apply for a judicial clerkship.
Recognizing the practical skills and experience gained from a judicial clerkship, class credit for compensation purposes is given to former judicial clerks, who clerked at a federal, state appellate, or state supreme court. In addition, associates who join the firm immediately after completing a clerkship receive a $10,000 bonus, half of which is paid at the start of employment and half of which is paid after one year of service with the firm. We also consider judicial clerks who were not summer associates at Shipman & Goodwin.
